The Trend of 2021: The Reverse Cat-Eye Look

Nowadays people, including the biggest celebrities we love, have started experimenting with hair, fashion and most importantly, MAKEUP! From the lipsticks as blush to color changing bb creams, several makeup hacks have been super viral on TikTok and Instagram. But none of the makeup trends or hacks have taken the Internet by such a frenzy the way the reverse cat eye look did. People have been going crazy over this makeup trend and we have seen many celebrities and tiktokers slaying the look. Nevertheless we makeup fanatics love a good makeup hack don’t we?

Who actually started this makeup trend?

This trend first got viral in tiktok when makeup artist @paintedbyspencer posted a video with him carrying out the look with a caption, “Have you tried the reverse cat eye? It’s my favourite.” Since then, people all around the world have gone insane over this look and have

been trying it with their own creative inputs. But when we actually look into its history, it is not a look of very recent times. Our style and makeup icon, Kim Kardashian, who now is the owner of one of the biggest makeup companies, KKW beauty which is known to have some of the best contouring products (I mean it's KIM K!), have been seen wearing this look and rocking it on the Cannes Red Carpet back in the year 2016 and even Kristen Stewart was seen wearing it to the premiere of the film she directed, Come Swim in 2017. Indian actresses like Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan have also been spotted wearing this look before this went viral. So we know for sure that it was not a look someone invented on Tik Tok but in fact has always been a part of our trends since a while.

So how do we do this look?

It looks pretty simple to do but it can be hard for a beginner to slay a reverse wing in the first go. So here’s the step by step process of a reverse cat eye look!

● Grab a kajal or a kohl pencil. I will put in some drugstore and high end recommendations below with their website links!

● From the starting of the eye, draw a line on the lower lash line extending it to the outer corner.

● Take a flat brush or a smudger to blend out the line into a smoky wing. Extend the outer part of the wing carefully, pulling it outward so that it looks like a proper cat eye wing.

Guess what! You are all ready to go! Brush in some neutral color into the crease or on the lid of your eyes so they don’t look colorless and you are ready to go! Pretty simple right?

This makeup trick gives you a fierce look and now you can pull off any party look with almost no effort and minimal use of products!

Let me put in some recommendations for some drugstore and high end kohl pencils so that you can put off this look with the amount of money you can to invest in it!
